Koh Phangan is home to over 30 beaches, each with its own character. Whether you're looking for a quiet cove for snorkeling, a lively stretch for sunset drinks, or a hidden gem only the locals know, this island has it all.

As hosts of Villa La Favela in Haad Salad, we've spent years exploring every corner of this island. Here's our definitive guide to the best beaches.

1. Haad Salad — The Hidden Gem

Our personal favorite (and where Villa La Favela is located). Haad Salad is a small, crescent-shaped beach on the northwest coast with powdery white sand, calm turquoise water, and very few crowds. It's perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and watching spectacular sunsets.

Best for: Families, couples, anyone wanting peace and beauty.

Tip: The snorkeling is excellent on the rocky edges — bring your own gear.

2. Bottle Beach (Haad Khuat)

Accessible only by boat or a steep jungle trail, Bottle Beach feels like a secret paradise. Crystal-clear water, dramatic jungle backdrop, and a handful of rustic restaurants.

Best for: Adventurers and those willing to earn their beach.

How to get there: Longtail boat from Chaloklum (10 min, ~150 THB) or hike from Haad Khom (45 min).

3. Thong Nai Pan Noi

Often ranked among the best beaches in all of Thailand, this east-coast beauty offers soft sand, excellent swimming, and a more developed scene with quality restaurants and beachfront bars.

Best for: Those wanting a balance of beauty and convenience.

4. Haad Rin (Sunrise Beach)

Famous worldwide as the home of the Full Moon Party, Haad Rin is a long crescent of white sand that transforms from peaceful daytime beach to the world's biggest beach party once a month.

Best for: Party-goers and backpackers (during Full Moon), surprisingly pleasant during the day.

5. Mae Haad Beach

Connected to the tiny island of Koh Ma by a natural sandbar you can walk across at low tide. Great snorkeling around Koh Ma, and the beach itself is gorgeous.

Best for: Snorkeling, unique photo opportunities, low-key vibes.

6. Secret Beach (Haad Son)

Despite the name, it's not entirely secret anymore, but it's still wonderfully quiet. A small beach with soft sand and calm water, backed by coconut palms.

Best for: A quiet afternoon away from everything.

7. Zen Beach

A tiny, picture-perfect cove on the northern coast. Only accessible by a short trail through a wellness resort. Worth the effort for Instagram-worthy shots and real tranquility.

Best for: Yoga lovers, photographers, anyone craving solitude.

8. Haad Yao (Long Beach)

One of the most popular beaches on the west coast, with a long stretch of sand, excellent sunset views, and a solid selection of beach bars and restaurants.

Best for: Sunset cocktails, long beach walks, accessible beauty.

9. Chaloklum Bay

A working fishing village with a relaxed, authentic Thai atmosphere. The beach is nice but the real draw is the excellent seafood restaurants and genuine local culture.

Best for: Foodies and culture seekers.

10. Than Sadet Beach

A rugged, beautiful beach on the east coast, backed by the famous Than Sadet waterfall and national park. This beach was a favorite of Thailand's late King Rama IX.

Best for: History buffs, nature lovers, those wanting something raw and unspoiled.

11. Haad Khom

A small, sheltered bay near Chaloklum with excellent snorkeling. Less visited than most beaches, making it perfect for a quiet day out.

Best for: Snorkelers looking for uncrowded waters.

12. Wok Tum / Hin Kong

West-coast beaches that are less about swimming (shallow, rocky at low tide) and more about the incredible sunsets and wellness-focused community of Srithanu nearby.

Best for: Yoga retreats, sunset watching, digital nomad community.
