Why Haad Salad Is Koh Phangan's Best-Kept Secret
Most visitors to Koh Phangan land at Thong Sala, head south to Haad Rin for the Full Moon Party, and leave thinking they've seen the island. They haven't seen it. The real Koh Phangan is on the northwest coast — and Haad Salad is its crown jewel.
Haad Salad is a small crescent bay about 15 kilometres north of Thong Sala. It has powdery white sand, calm turquoise water that's safe for swimming year-round, and fewer than a dozen properties along the entire bay. There's no club, no Full Moon Party chaos, and no high-rise hotels. Just one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the Gulf of Thailand.
Haad Salad Beach: What to Expect
The Gulf of Thailand coast faces west-northwest, giving Haad Salad two key advantages over east and south beaches:
- Calm water year-round. The bay is naturally sheltered — safe for children throughout the year.
- Spectacular sunsets. The beach faces directly into the setting sun, with unobstructed horizon views.
The snorkeling on the rocky edges of the bay is genuinely good — sea turtles, reef fish, and occasional barracuda. The beach itself is about 400 metres of fine white-cream sand with typically very few people even at peak season.
Beach Restaurants

Getting to Haad Salad
From Thong Sala Ferry Pier
Haad Salad is 13km north of Thong Sala:
- Songthaew: ~150-200 THB per person
- Private taxi: 300-400 THB for the car
- Scooter rental: ~200-250 THB/day, 25-minute drive up the coast road
